Core77 Speaks with Jonathan Ive on the design of the iPhone 4: Materials Matter

(via Core77)
About that instant classic in my pocket…
We’ve had all 4 models of iPhone here at Casa Turner. I have to say that the first version was my favorite until now. The iPhone 3G and 3GS with their plastic cases worked well, but felt less substantial and felt kinda cheap. The new iPhone 4 is another matter all together. It is remarkably slim, the build quality really is like no other consumer product, and it works extremely well. The incredibly simple controls belie the incredible power of the device. The screen is gorgeous - the resolution is like nothing I’ve seen before. It has the same solid feel of a Leica camera, and it’s glossy. black form is reminiscent of the monolith in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey
And it will be in the MoMA permanent collection.
